A 5.0 Mustang costs more than a 5-series in Hong Kong.

well, yea. shocking to learn, but most other places in the world, ppl are taxed on engine displacment. hance why you see very few 4+L motors from the japanese or the euros (not that it doesnt happen, but it doesnt happen nearly as much.

What’s a Hong Kong? I’m pretty sure that’s in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China. Next you’re gonna tell me that Taiwan is a country and not just Chinese Taipei.

Given the price of real estate, probably close.

That and the MSRP of the vehicle. I know when my sis’ bought their cars, dealers recommended them not taking the factory options and just get them dealer/third party installed after the vehicle is landed.

Damn, $96k USD for a Mustang. Insane, but that’s typical for Hong Kong from what I understand. I don’t see how people can afford to live there.

It’s the same here in Finland. The Mustang 5.0 prices start from €79.7k (2.3 from €55.6k) and BMW 5-series 520d from €48.8k. 535i would be priced at €78.4k.
Here the prices are quite firm and you cannot get much discount from new car prices.

Taiwan isn’t a country, it’s an island. The Republic of China is a country though.

It’s because they care about pedestrian safety.

In my native the Netherlands an Ecoboost Mustang starts at about €50k and a V8 at about €100k. Most of it caused by emissions/gas guzzler taxes (we have no displacement or HP tax). A 5 series starts at €55k for a 520d or €60k for a 530i.

Well, let’s see. Prices in Ireland (tax inclusive obviously)
Mustang 5.0 manual €71,500
BMW 520d (by far the most popular model) €48,280 as a manual (not a thing often seen)
Not a fair comparison of course because the BM is a much slower car and everything is an optional extra. A 535i, a thing very rarely sold because petrol engine, would be €76,830 on the road.
